Moore Author Invades Texas for Signing

Moore, Okla. -- Horror author Steven E. Wedel of Moore, Okla. will travel south to Dallas, Texas for a book signing this weekend.

Wedel will join Richard Weber, Angeline Hawkes-Craig, Elaine Lanmon, Charlee Jacobs, Roxane Longstreet Conrad, John Paul Allen and Sara Merlene at Borders Books, 5500 Greenville Ave. and Lovers Lane from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 25. He will be signing copies of his new novel, "Shara" and "Darkscapes," a collection of short stories released in 2002.

Authors will be in costume for the Dallas signing. Wedel said he considered dressing as a werewolf since his novel is about that beast, but decided against it. "The costume I put together for that is just too complex," he said. "I couldn't put it together in the Borders restroom and I'm sure not driving all the way to Dallas as a werewolf."

Wedel also considered another costume. "I thought about dressing as the scariest thing known to Texans, but I couldn't find an Oklahoma Sooners football uniform." Wedel would not reveal what costume he decided on.

The Dallas book signing will be Wedel’s fourth this month and his second out-of-state signing on a tour to promote "Shara." He can be seen promoting the book this week on the "Read About It" television program produced by the Oklahoma City library. The show airs on Cox Communication stations in various parts of Oklahoma.

"Shara" has received several positive reviews from other authors, including Bram Stoker Award winner Tom Piccirilli and Stoker nominees Gary A. Braunbeck and Diana Barron. Reviews are pending in City Slab and Blood Rose magazines, and The Oklahoman newspaper. The novel has been recommended for the Bram Stoker Award in the First Novel category; the awards are given annually by the international Horror Writers Association.
